India coach Parag Agrawal shines with a winning performance as Dehradun hosts its inaugural masters table tennis tournament
DEHRADUN: Indian table tennis coach Parag Agrawal made his mark at the inaugural Doon Masters Table Tennis Tournament, registering a win in his match as the two-day competition brought together some of the country’s prominent masters players in Dehradun.
Organised by the Uttarakhand Masters Table Tennis Association and Masters Group, the tournament was held on September 12 and 13 and attracted more than 100 players across 33 teams from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Agrawal’s winning performance was one of the notable moments of an event that featured players with national and international experience.
Parag Agrawal leads the spotlight
Agrawal, who is identified in the tournament report as an India coach, competed in the masters event and came away with a victory in his match. His performance added to the competitive character of a tournament that included several accomplished players from different age categories.
The first edition of the competition was billed as a North Zone TT Mahakumbh, with both team events and a full programme of singles matches.
Strong field of experienced players
The tournament featured several recognised names from the masters circuit. Vinay Chopra, listed as the World No. 1 player in the 70+ category, was among the participants, while Harsh Chopra and Sameer Sahani, ranked World No. 7 in the 40+ category, were also part of the event.
Alongside them, the field included Rishiraj Tyagi, a national silver medallist, Manuraj Jain, described as Delhi’s top player in the 40+ category, Saurabh Poddar, and Manish Nepal, a 2026 National Masters silver medallist.
Veteran players also featured
A number of senior veteran players participated in the tournament, including Dr Peter Desouza, Girish Chabra, Jawahar Bhandari and Harpreet Singh Bamrah.
The presence of players spanning multiple masters categories gave the tournament a strong mix of experience and competitive depth.
LightQuo Pacific win team title
While Agrawal’s individual victory drew attention, the LightQuo Pacific team finished as the tournament’s team champion. The winning side received a trophy and ₹5,100 in prize money.
The inaugural Doon Masters tournament thus brought together more than 100 players from six states, with Agrawal’s winning outing among the key performances highlighted from the competition.
